5 New Year Superstitions

It’s that time of the year again when everyone is rushing back home to their families to celebrate the upcoming New Year. And that means people have to bring out the best in their houses, and themselves – through festivities, decorations, resolutions.
In all this fun, superstitions too have a part to play. After all, everyone wants a worry free 2016, don’t they!

For all those superstitious people out there, BrainGain magazine found out 5 New Year superstitions, that you might want to know about, just in case . . .

1. The Midnight Kiss

It is believed that kissing at midnight ensures that affections and ties will continue throughout the New Year. On similar lines, it is said, to not do this could set the stage for a year of coldness.

2. Making Resolutions

Many believe the first day of the New Year should be spent thinking about the past year and resolving to improve oneself in the coming year.The trick is to “start with the small, and practice the easy”. When you succeed, you’ll build momentum for the next step.

3. Black Eyed Peas

Eat these for good luck! (The legumes, not the humans!) And, if you eat them with greens, you’ll find financial prosperity. The peas represent good luck, while the greens represent money.

4.‘The First Footer’

It is considered good luck if the first person to visit your home is a man. And, if that man brings gifts, it’s even better!

The first person to enter your house after midnight should be greeted warmly. The first footer also known as the ‘Lucky Bird,’ influences the kind of year you are going to have.

5. Let the Old Year Out

Let-the-Old-Year-Out

All doors and windows must be opened at midnight to let out the old year. Keep doors and windows open at midnight, to let the old year leave and usher in the fresh New Year.
