American teenager Priscilla Samey got into seven Ivy League schools, but couldn’t find a date for the senior prom. Instead of being disheartened, the 17-year-old took her acceptance letter from Harvard University to the dance. Last Saturday, she tweeted this picture with the message, “Couldn’t find a man to accept me for prom so I took a college that did #Harvard2021 #prom2k17.”

Many people on Twitter lauded Samey for her achievements and perspective on what’s important in life. Among them was sociology professor Dr Tressie McMillan of Virginia Commonwealth University, who tweeted, “You won’t have to cut this picture in half in five years so you winning”.

Besides a full scholarship to Harvard, Samey, the daughter of immigrants from Togo in West Africa, also received admission offers from Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale.

A media report quoted Samey as saying she got the idea of going with her acceptance letter from her sister. “She said, ‘The best one [date] is all your college admissions,’” Samey was quoted as saying. “I took a date that was pretty low maintenance, so I didn’t have to pay for his dinner.” Samey reportedly said she saved on her dress, which reflected her African roots and was made by a family friend. The media report noted that Samey’s classmates were supportive of her prom date.

The Minnesota teen plans to study political science at Harvard and get degrees in law and business administration, with the aim of practicing business law.
